Dharali Village:

Dharali is a beautiful small village approximately 6 to 7 Kilometers from Harsil famous for its red bean and apple orchard farming. This place is easily accessible by local bus from Harsil or Uttarkashi. Visiting this village you will feel a soothing glow in your soul and relax your mind.  Here you should also visit the popular Lord Shiva temple which is a replica of the Kedarnath temple.  The best time to visit here is October to November and March to June.

Mukhwa Village

Mukhba (also known as Mukhwa) is another small village famous for its raw beauty, which is approximately 6.5 kilometers from Harsil. There are two temples in this village and known as a holy place by many. The old temple is made of deodar wood and brass and the new one is made of marble stone and concrete. Every year on Diwali, the idol of Goddess Ganga is brought down to the temple in Mukhba with many devotees, and the Garhwal Rifles army band. When the Gangotri is closed in winter due to heavy snowfall, devotees offer their prayers to the Goddess here. The best time to visit this place is September to October. 

Willson Cottage

Willson Cottage:

Wilson’s Cottage is a historic establishment built in 1864 by Mr. Wilson, a deserter from the British Army. He built a two-storied cottage for his beloved bwife Gulabi who belonged to a nearer village Mukhba. They had three sons Charles, Nathaniel, and Henry. Local people of villages in Harsil still tell tales about this Wilson Family. The green nature here, the chirping of birds, and the soothing sound of the Bhagirathi river will give you a great calmness and make it a peaceful destination. This place is approximately 1.5 Kilometer far from Harsil and April to October is the best time to visit here.

Ganganani

Gangnani:

Ganganani is a place for nature lovers. There is a hot spring here and many devotees choose to bathe in its holy waters before proceeding to Gangotri. The charming atmosphere here will give you a sense of tranquility and the surrounding mountains can be seen very clearly from here. You will get a panoramic view of the city and mountains from here.  Ganganani is approximately 32 Kilometers from Harsil and can be easily accessible by taxi. The best time to visit Ganganani is April to June.

May to June and September to October are the best times to visit here.

Dayara Bugyal

Dayara Bugyal is one of the best viewpoints to observe a wide array of Himalayan range. This place is known as the altitude meadow in the local language and it sits at 3,048 meters above sea level. A small natural lake called Varnala Tal adds to the beauty of the place. It is a go to trekking and camping destination for the adventure lover. In Harsil it is a must visit place. Dayara Bugyal is roughly 56 Kilometers from Harsil. You can take a Taxi up to Barsu Village and then need to trek for 8 Kilometers to reach Dayara Bugyal.  April and March are the ideal months to visit the location.

Gartang Gali

Gartang Gali:

Gartang Gali is a 136 meter long wooden stairway said to have been built by Peshwari Pathans 150 years ago. It is situated at an elevation of  3352 meters at Nelang Valley in Uttarkashi district near India Chaina order. Traditionally this route was used to trade between India and Tibet. This is one of the popular tourist places in Harsil Gartang Gali is roughly 19.3 Kilometer far from Harsil. Rental Car and Taxi is available to reach this beautiful tourist destination.

Gomukh:

Gomukh is the source of the Bhagirathi River in the Gangotri Glacier, one of the main streams of the Ganges, and the second largest glacier in India. Gaumukh is a must visit place when visiting Gangotri. The place is situated at an altitude of 13,200 ft (4,023 m) in Uttarkashi district. Gangotri Temple is the base camp of the trek from where you will have to trek for 17 Kilometers to reach Goumukh.  Being one of the holiest places in Uttarakhand, this destination is visited by many devotees every year to offer their prayers.

Nelang Valley

Located at an elevation of 11,400 feet, Nelong Valley is a rocky part of the Gangotri National Park. Before China invaded Tibet, Nelong Valley was a vital trade route between Tibet and India. Since the Indo-China War of 1962, the area has been under the control of the Indian Army and public access is strictly controlled here. Tourists can travel up to 25 Kilometers here with prior permission from the SDM office. The process of obtaining permission from the SDM’s office may be time-consuming. This permission has to be taken in combination with three or four offices so try to start this process as soon as possible at the beginning of the day. The distance from Hasil to Nelang Valley is 40 km and taxis and hired cars are available for transportation.

Mandakini Falls:


Mandakini Waterfalls is an integral part of Harsil’s natural beauty which makes this place an attractive tourist spot. This waterfall is named on the name of an Indian film actress Mandakini, who acted in a song of “Ram Teri Ganga Maili” movie picturise in this waterfall. During monsoons, this waterfall takes on a unique beauty and its mesmerizing scenery attracts nature lovers and adventure seekers. Many tourists come here to see the beauty of this waterfall. Mandakini Waterfalls is roughly 2.6 Kilometers from Harsil and accessible by Taxi and rental car.  Dont forget to visit this waterfall in Harsil.

By Train:  Dehradun Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Harsil. Dehradun city is well connected with all other cities of India and can be easily reached by Air, Railway and Roadway. From Dehradun, you can either take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Harsil. By road, It takes 8 to 9 hours to reach Harsil.

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Harsil, which is approximately 225 kilometers away. From Dehradun, you can either take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Harsil. By road. Usually It takes 8 to 9 hours to reach Harsil but sometimes it takes more depending on the road condition.
